Bentu’s Ceramics Made terrazzo collection is paving the way
Terrazzo ticks many boxes. It is beautiful, durable and customisable; its texture and colour enable it to be a feature; and its uniform pattern allows it to be a background element. So, it’s understandable why there has been a resurgence in the use of terrazzo in interior and product design, with Bentu’s Ceramics Made tables, shelving and lights being one collection that’s paving the way.
Bentu unveiled Ceramics Made at Milan Furniture Fair in 2017. Taking an experimental and environmentally responsible approach to materials, the studio sources recycled waste ceramics & stone chips, and mixes it with concrete to create the graphic vibrancy and texture of terrazzo. Surfaces are polished to a smooth finish, and the ultra-high-performance concrete ensures added strength, allowing Bentu to cast slim profiles for a striking collection of lighting and furniture.
Tu Terrazzo Pendant (below) is a bell-shaped pendant lamp that featured in the Dulux Colour Forecast 2018 campaign. It has a minimalist, sculpted form with natural variances in texture and colour due to the nature of the material.
Bentu’s ability to achieve slenderness and strength with terrazzo is no simple feat. Sculptural and substantial in size, Piece Terrazzo Pendant (below) has three floating planes fixed with an internal brass framework. The angles and overlapping of the planes encapsulate light and cast dynamic shadows.
Bang Terrazzo Pendant (above) has a long cylindrical form and a slender profile. Like all the Bentu lamps, it can be hung alone, in a linear arrangement or at different heights to create a chandelier-like effect.
O2 Terrazzo Wall Light (above) is a floating disc that is back-lit to create an impression reminiscent of celestial spheres in eclipse. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, O2 is available in two diameters, two depths and four colours. Discs can be mixed and matched to create sculptural clusters.
Bentu’s I Terrazzo Table (above) is a pedestal table in five heights, two tabletop shapes and two base shapes (circular or square), allowing it to be used for a range of purposes. The powder-coated steel base is coloured to match the terrazzo.
Slice Terrazzo Table (above) has an elongated form and is available in three different heights and lengths to function as a bench seat, table, side table or mixed and matched to create a picnic-like setting. Slice Terrazzo Shelf has the same form and proportions in a four-tier shelving unit.
Products in Ceramics Made are available in red, blue, black and white; some as standard, others as custom.
