Design can change your life.

Posted by Remodern on

It's about the visceral, intuitive level of processing and being able to orchestrate all of those elements and principles simultaneously – to design something! Design is more than just making life more comfortable; it should speak to you about aesthetics, cultural values and truth.

Fundamentally, design can make a difference, but designers must choose what this difference will be. Light and space artist James Turrell invites us into his unique world of surreal immersive and hypnotic light, designed to transform demeanor and psyche. Turrell’s recent Skyspace installation at Mona ‘Amarna’ 2015 does exactly this; it encourages, pushes and stimulates earthly perceptions within us to morph into other worldly realms.

Design at its best, can significantly improve how we feel and interact with one-another and our environment, defining who we are and how we think. Yet applying design thinking to global problems (such as poverty, homeless and global warming) is incredibly challenging. The first step is to realize that design is human-centered and starts with human needs, which may make life easier, more efficient or more enjoyable - and do so beautifully.

By recognizing, investing and immersing ourselves in good design, we become conditioned and inspired to push beyond simply serving a function, to respond to our visceral intuition and to make a difference.
