Representing an extraordinary new design venture from Bentu, Nongzao draws on the same ethos. Through design, they seek to preserve humanity’s connection with nature, and we are proud to present their debut collection, Raw Earth, exclusively in Australia.

The Raw Earth collection by Nongzao exemplifies this philosophy through six inimitable lights: Cell Table Lamp, E-Mars, Echo Pendant, and three Skeleton Pendants, Skeleton L, M and U Pendant. Each light is made from the simplest and most natural material of all: soil.

Nongzao moulded the Raw Earth collection by combining cast diatomaceous earth with metallic minerals and plant fibres. In doing so, Nongzao has pioneered a ground-breaking new manufacturing method – one that has distinguished them as an innovator within the contemporary design world. By breaking away from artificial materials and using a non-fired production process that reduces energy emissions, the Raw Earth collection draws our attention to more sustainable design practices.

It also infuses interiors with a more visceral and tangible connection to nature. All the designs retain the organic surface texture, natural coarseness, and rusted hues of the soil from which they were made. Together, they draw us closer to the natural world while simultaneously conveying their own individual meaning: Cell Table Lamp reminds us of life’s humble beginnings; E-Mars juxtaposes the earthly with the celestial; Echo Pendant grounds us amid the turmoil of our lives, and Skeleton finds connections with nature in the most unlikely of places.

The Raw Earth collection imbues our environment with warmth, tactility, and intrigue. Through Nongzao, utility and materiality unite to guide us back into the earth’s embrace.
